Last year was something of a big one for singer-songwriter Jake Morley, he received bucket loads of radio support from the likes of Dermot O’Leary, Jo Whiley and Janince Long to mention but a few, he performed his infectious mix of stripped acoustics, percussion led guitar and hook-laden, sing-a-long pop anthems across the UK taking in a number of massive venues along the way including two nights at the Hammersmith Apollo supporting Joe Bonamassa, as well also providing support to Ed Sheenan during his meteoric rise to the top.
During Jake’s busy work schedule he also found time to release a few singles including the completely contagious Feet Don’t Fail Me Now (reviewed on this very site elsewhere) and his debut album Many Fish To Fry, a dazzling, infectious compendium of stripped down folk and upbeat pop.
Many Fish To Fry gathered a number of fantastic reviews without perhaps the push that the album rightfully deserved and so Jake signed a new deal with the Icebreaker Fund and with their help now delivers a new deluxe version of the album with bonus material and a DVD to boot (and if you’ve seen either Jake’s videos or live shows you know you’ll want to get a hold of the DVD).
With the album reissue Jake has decided to push a re-released version of Don’t Fail Me Now as a taster to the album’s second birth, now as I’ve said previously I reviewed and loved the original pressing of Feet Don’t Fail Me Now, so I’m not going to sit here and rewrite what I’ve previously tapped out, but what I will tell you is that the single is a glorious sing-a-long featuring acoustic guitars, tapped out rhythms, rousing choral vocals and a sly nod towards hip-hop.
Feet Don’t Fail Me Now is bright, breezy and oh so catchy, if Jake doesn’t manage to raise a smile I seriously suggest you check your pulse for any life signs.
