THE TASK IN HAND Xmas ‘Fundraiser’…
Where: The Marr’s Bar, Worcester. WR1 1TA.
When: 18:00 Saturday, December 29th.

Artists: Theo, Vault Of Eagles, Broken Oak Duet, Das Sexy Clap, Sealab IV, Tokamak, Wes Dance,
Howard James Kenny.
Cost: £5.
The Task In Hand are hosting a (potentially) spectacular Xmas showcase of local musical talent. Artists
such as Theo, Das Sexy Clap, Vault Of Eagles and Howard James Kenny will be playing the Marr’s
Bar on Saturday, December 29th. All takings are to be squirreled away – to act as a safety net – so that
the risk of the larger guarantees for bigger, established acts can be met and taken on with less fear.

Back in October of this year, The Task In Hand came off a short hiatus, to start promoting events again.
Finding a new hunger to help improve Worcester’s music scene. All events are non-profit. They would
also like them to be non-loss too! By raising funds to help back them up, they can set up bigger musical
events – The likes of which Worcester deserves and would easily be capable of hosting. Already in the
pipeline for 2013 is the legendary Mike Watt (The Stooges, The Minutemen, fIREHOSE) in February.
To raise these funds, an end of year celebration of local music is taking place. On Saturday, December
29th, The Marr’s Bar in Pierpoint Street will be filled with some of the best acts Worcestershire and the
surrounding areas have produced.
A strong line-up consisting of: the haunting ethereal loops of Howard James Kenny, playing his first
Worcester show in an age; Worcester’s folk troubadour, Wes Dance; the instrumental Tokamak, albeit
missing their drummer; the odd, lo-fi and seemingly improv no-wave soundscapes of Sealab IV; the
utterly fantastic Das Sexy Clap, who make more beautiful, rocked out noise than a two piece should be
legally and physically allowed to; baritone guitar and drum ensemble The Broken Oak Duet; blissed out
desert rock from Vault Of Eagles; and the evening’s headliner and long time Worcester musical hero,
Theo, with his mathy, rocked out looping guitars and pounding, technical drumming.
Live, on stage mental breakdown comes courtesy of The Task In Hand compere, Nicholas d’Arcy.
This is a night not to be missed…
The Marr’s Bar,
Saturday December 29th.
Doors open at six with a five pound entrance fee.

It’s not often that I preview a show here on Rhythm & Booze, but I’ve got to say, if you only attend one gig in Worcester then you really should make sure it’s Jubilee Jamboree live at The Marrs Bar in a couple of weeks time.

Their are a number of reasons I feel so passionate about the event, firstly the soiree has been curated by singer-songwriter and current Robinson lead guitarist, Wes Dance, he has managed to hand-pick a number of the best and intriguing acts our area has to offer. From the stunning electro-pop of Twinkle Echo to the feral rock of Das Sexy Clap via the radio baiting, indie-folk stylings of Robinson, Wes has crafted a wonderfully eclectic mix that should find favour with music lovers the county over.

One of the other s that Jubilee Jamboree is worthy of your attention is that the  five pound entry fee (a bargain for a line-up of this quality!!!) will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society, a fantastic charity that help support the sufferers of the alzheimers as well as their families, a brilliantly worthy cause, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Everyone has a long weekend, with bank holiday Monday and the Jubilee, so what better way tp kick start you’re sabbatical from work by checking out the hottest line-up of the year.

Das Sexy Clap are a duo hailing from my hometown of Worcester, comprising of Chris Wemyss and musical partner Katy Birch.

Now If you’re from around these parts you will have no doubt seen powerhouse Chris bashing the living daylights out of his drum kit for the likes of local faves And What Will Be Left Of Them, EvilWitch and Joe Patroni to name but three, however his latest project, Das Sexy Clap sees Chris storm the stage throttle the singer and take over as the frontman and guitarist, whilst Katy takes up the vacant drum stool helping create one of the most potent sound in the Midlands right now.
Massive raw rock riffs collide with pummeled beats as Das Sexy Clap create a gigantic wall of filthy primal rock, a feral yet infectious sound that’ll have the weak minded scamper for cover whilst the creatures of the night take to the dance floor and twist new shapes to the duo’s frantic garage rock.
The EP opens with the nigh on three minute statement of intent, Push It In Break It Off, a delicious slab of molten rock that begins with a wall of feedback adds a nasty surf like riff before twisting into a huge holler along chorus and barrage of beats, that’ll have you rutting along before the end of the very first spin. Put It Out Yeah follows and proves that Das Sexy Clap are no one trick pony as Chris howls and growls as Das Sexy Clap deliver a groove-laden monster anthem complete with a sudden stop-start, a killer vocal hook and more attitude than most bands can muster in a life time.
The three-track EP closes with the meaty and metallic 12 Year Itch and with it the band manage to deliver their rawest and dirtiest cut to date with Chris and Katy whipping up a storm with a flood of pulsating beats and an orgy of riffs, whilst the vocals are delivered with an intensity that would shame the entire hardcore scene.
So So Sick is more than just a debut, it’s a call to arms, we will no longer be satisfied with wishy washy landfill indie, we demand cranked up amps, battered beats and howling primal vocals, we demand contagious rock, we demand Das Sexy Clap.
